Beginning of this month Sun enters Dhanu Rashi (Sagittaurius) & i.e. the reason this month is popularly known as “DHANURMAS”.
Dhan Rashi is the original house of planet Guru. (Swagrahi) As Sun God enters this house, power of Guru gets multifold.
During this month heat & cold would be moderate, making the atmosphere peaceful for conducting devotional activities.
In all the corners of the country people perform special Poojas, conduct discourses on various Scriptures according to their custom.
Since Sun God is in the own house of Guru, who is the Master& giver of knowledge this period is considered to be most auspicious for learning new subjects. It is also believed that studies begun during this period go a long way.
It was during the same auspicious period Lord Krishna went to His Master Sandipani for studies. Lord Krishna studied 64 various subjects from His Master Rushi Sandipani.
It was during the same month Lord Krishna took Yudhishthir to Bhishma Pitamah for his advice. Bhishma Pitamah glorified Lord Krishna by reciting His 1001 Holy Names.
Today during this month at various holy places Satsang Sabhas (Spiritual Congregations)are held & Lord is glorified.
Dhanurmas is Upasana oriented month, meaning of Upasana is praying & worshipping Lord without any expectation i.e. selfless devotion.
The same custom is followed in Gurukul during this month of Dhanurmas.
Every day early morning Katha, Parayana & discourses are held in all Gurukuls.
